Most skin care products from large corporations are tested on animals. These tests cause pain and suffering to animals, and many die as a result of these tests. All drugs (prescription and OTC) are tested on animals. Most dietary supplements are tested on animals. Automotive products, household cleansers, eye care products, anything that may touch human skin or be ingested by humans is probably going to be forced on animals caged in laboratories all over the US and all over the world. Those famous words you hear on the news "tests on animals showed that product (X) can reduce cancer" means that so many animals were made to have cancer so that these drugs could be tested on them...and the vast majority of animals die in the process. Is this humane? Is this what being a human being is all about? There are alternative ways to test products. Testing on animals is cruel and wrong.
Many countries have regulations - like ensuring pain medication is administered to animals in pain whilst being 'tested' upon. I dont agree with defenseless animals being put through pain in the 1st place. Placating the conscience of testers isnt relevant to me. Peta.org, PCRM.org etc have European groups that are just as active as in the US. Check out their websites. And no, I have not worked in a lab, I could not live with myself if I did. Killing animals after testing is also horrific.
