  • Nice looking mixer Bill. "D"

  • Hello Mike,

    The recipe would be appreciated.

Is the preheat time for the refractory an issue? Right now I am using Kaowool and ITC-100 in a forge made from Mike Porters kiln book. I listened to your mixer vid again and caught the "cast steel", I wasn't paying attention the first time.

    Thank you for your time.

    Kenny

  • @SheikYerbouti - if you want my formula I would be happy to post it. I also used a propane forge. I'm a blade smith. I designed and built my own gas forge and it runs hot enough to forge weld and smelt high carbon steel. My refractory handles the heat and borax while lasting a very very long time - hundreds of hours of burn time...

  • Would you divulge your recipe for refractory? I will be making a propane forge for blacksmithing.

Very nice job and nice size. My preferred method of joining MS to cast is, either brazing or NI-rod. Thank you for posting.

  • Bill, it's a great looking little mixer. You mite consider using a plastic coffee can as a motor shroud. Keep the wet stuff out of the zappy stuff, dust also.

I have to hand mix my refractory, it's to thick to use a mixer. Very little water used in my formula, speeds up the cure time and less chance of cracking.

    Happy new year.
