@joeytwosubs I have a sincere question for you. Why are you so angry and hurtful to other people? I seriously do not understand because I cannot imagine not liking people based upon the simple accident of them being born of a particular race or ethnicity. What happened to you that made you into this person? Also, I really hate to push this further, but all of the information in the above comment that you present as factual about Indians is simply incorrect.

@cleavenger2679423It please me to no end for the new comers to this great land of ours, yes I'm an American Indian from Canada, did a stint with the Armed Forces and at the end of found myself in the same position many of us dov racial profiling, they don't hire Indians. But instead of fingimg in booze, substance abuse and self pity, I paid for correspondence courses, took jobs that was even beneath the FOB (fresh off the boat) immigrants wouldn't take, frustration/intolerence knows no ethnicity

I'm a Vietnam Vet. and a Marine I don't care if he was a drunk an Indian, black, brown, he was my brother. Any man that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother. He won the medal of honor someone should done some balls and helped him. He was a hero and WW2 Vet. That's the problem with this country always trying to get over on someone, And this country owe's the native American big time if wasn't for them we would have never made it though the first winter when we came over to their country.

My great uncle fought with Ira. It's funny b/c I didnt know that he had until long after this became one of my favorite songs

I am shocked at the ignorance of so many people that have commented on this video, who claim to understand anything about Ira Hayes and his Indian identity. First, I am an enrolled tribal member, who is Pima-Maricopa (Akimel O'odham-Piipaash) Second, there is no such thing as the "Sacaton Tribe" or "Sacaton Indian Reservation," there is only the Gila River Indian Community, where Ira Hayes was from, and they are Pima-Maricopa Indian people who live there.

Ira Hayes was a native American from the Sacaton tribe and he was a Marine who fought at the Battle of Iwo Jima. He was a war hero & was one of the Marines memorialized in statue that shows the soldiers planting the US flag. He was an American war veteran who died an alcoholic and impoverished. What a pity, he was only 34.
