Evan Mann creates otherworldly objects, creatures, and installations inspired from his exploration of mystery. This suspended sculpture addresses the essence of what it means to be human, beyond the perception of our senses. Mann's uses of materials (driftwood, q-tips, balloons, plastic, cardboard, etc.) are combined in unexpected ways and in varying levels of complexity/detail. Using these materials, the installation dissects the human into two parts: the physical and the invisible, or spiritual. The invisible is represented by a sculpture that hovers and twists throughout the space, dynamically filling the lobby with it's presence and the physical is represented by a very small figure of a human being standing on the floor, below the sculpture. The scale of this figure is dwarfed by the large sculpture, thus changing the scale of the suspended piece, making it to appear much larger. Evan Mann's "A Modest Materialization of the Human Duality" is on display at UICA from July 25--October 9, 2011.

Evan Mann earned his BFA from Colorado State University and his MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design.
