  • @Sallyismygoat I'm the same way, I know how to ask for them when you're about to start cantering, but not how to change after you're cantering

  • i am still confused on how i use my legs to get the horse to change leads in teh canter. i am getting a horse soon and i want to know cause i am going to be jumping and i still don't know how to get the leads to change at a canter

  • @equigal1 in english riding we often say whoa ;) it doesnt mean stop we just use it as a calming sound unlike in western were it means STOP ! to ask a horse to stop in english riding we sit deep and a little bit backwards and put a bit of pressure on the reigns , you have to remember how different western and english riding is :)

  • He's not teaching it... it already knows how..

  • @equigal1 I believe he is saying "walk" not "whoa" haha :p

  • I find it very strange to have someone saying "whoa" to a horse and only slowing him down. I believe that when you say "whoa" that means STOP!

Just a comment but I wonder what command he uses to actually make the horse stop and stand...saw on mouth??

  • @jesterstopgun I've taught a pony who's never done walk to canter in his life how to do it in 30 mins a couple weeks ago. You just have to get him looking slightly to the inside having an active walk. Sit still in your seat then slide your outside leg back. To start with it may take a few strides of trot before they canter, just build it up gradually & soon you should be able to do it.

  • @emanubano then youre not ready for lead-changes... ?

  • very nice. but that horse needs some groceries.

  • What if my horse can't do a walk-canter transition?
