@lboogie1338 no, the reason MMA, which generally uses Muay Thai for standup striking, positions the thumb up (palm facing body) for hooks is for clinching....especially if you miss with a hook, your hand is already in position to clinch.

I feel that my left hook to the head lands best when my hand is half-way between palm-in and palm-down.

@lboogie1338 You know ive been training mma for 2 years now and I never thought about this. Youve enlightened me as to why we do it differently. I never quite looked at it in that way lol

@dss103 Well, Ali's started out like Freddie's but Parkinsons disease may gradually worsen as time moves on. Alot of people refuse to take the Parkinsons prescribed medicine because it makes them sluggish and cloudy. But Ali's severity I think is simply from luck and age. Freddie may worsen or stay the same, Parkinsons is a strange disease like that.

You know, Freddie's Parkinson's disease isn't nearly as bad as Ali's is? Are there different levels of Parkinson's? Or is it that Ali has been in more wars than Roach has? Interesting

Gringofreestyler. Having your palm facing inward toward your body is a punch specifically for MMA and things associated with MMA such as Muay Thai or Kickboxing. Like Roach says..boxing is for closer distance fighting allowing you to face your palm down. That is why in boxing you do that where as in MMA you are further away from your opponent making your left or right hooks more powerful at greater distances when your palm faces your body. Hope that helps. Freddie Roach is the man

@quickzilver333 paquiao is a southpaw, he leads with the right hook and STRAIGHT Left. all four downs were all caused by straight lefts. LOLZ
