  • You do not wrap to support the leg, I do an overnight wrap with linament to heat the leg.

In the morning I cold hose it. I may do this for 2 days.

This practice increases blood flow and circulation.

If the leg has swollen initially from immediate trama the first thing is to chill with cold well water out of the hose.

Make the brain aware of the injury and begin the healing process.

  • @semtech30 thats pretty much what i said in the video. :/

  • When my horses have swollen legs i find it helps to try and walk them about. Wrapping them up is not generally a good idea its better not too but that is my opinion others may disagree.

  • walking them is very good. i do the same when it does not hurt them very bad. i on;y wrap my horses leg when they can't walk on it very well.

  • @jumpergirls thanks, his leg is better now!

  • @horseracergirl He's probably just has a minor infection in his leg. Call you vet and they should give you antibiotics give the recommended dose and keep hosing his leg and she should be back to normal soon.. :)

  • I feel so bad! I just got my first horse a few days ago and he got himself caught in the fence! there is only a little scrape but his leg is swollen :( I hosed it down for 15 mins and then put him away for the night. I won't ride him for a couple days and see if that helps. If anyone has any tips PLEASE tell me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I don't call the vet for this.

Not much to do other than whats been suggested.

I don't think it's always injury related. Sometimes just fever of the leg due to the environment or virus or circulation. Don't know exactly.

I've had strong healthy horses suddenly swell.

In about a week it's gone.

I've seen mud fever fungus or blackberry scratches do it.

I'm treating one now and we were into the blackberry vines about a week ago.

    Poosh.......swollen leg.

    Good Vid. Ya.

  • cool...
