This reaction almost hit my face, the temperature rose viciously and when it is reacting, the solution bubbles and sometimes burst in front of me. It is a bursting & explosive reaction between NaOH and Hydrochloric acid. Using Phenolphthaelin as a pH indicator, The Reaction is as follows:
NaOH + HCl → NaCl + H2O
Enjoy the video! and please post comments if you have any suggestion or question! :D

  • so the reaction time was like 10 seconds?

  • @seb109 Yup, it goes off really fast in the beginning, but starts to slow down as water and salt is formed and less HCl and NaOH is reacting :D

  • Well, I must say you sure knew what you were doing =)

you knew this reaction (on larger scale) can be explosive?

and drinking that solution will kill your kidneys =D

  • @guidocreusen Thanks for the comment,

yes, I knew that this reaction can be explosive, so I use small scale =D

oh, that I don't know, but there are rules in experiments which one of it is to not eat or drink during experiments, it is very dangerous to do so, and also, it can lead to death if we do that! :D

  • @guidocreusen Haha why would you want to drink that unless you wanted to get poisened?

  • @Violascry If you did a perfect titration, there would only be salt water left... it is hard on your kidneys after a repeated ingestion but its not like itll drop you dead on the spot.. Ive heard of a chemistry professor actually doing this but ive never seen it

  • isnt NaOH Sodium Hydroxide? not Natrium Hydroxide?

  • No gloves, no protective glasses, mixing strong acid and strong base you're really silly

  • where u buy this stuff from ??? please i love doing reaction hhhhhh

  • Pretty stupid to carry out that reaction without safety glasses or gloves

  • @mcgruben Hahaha, sure, if you did everything perfectly and accurately, you can drink the salty water made from the reaction, but you know if you have some NaOH left and you drank it, I don't know the effects of it being in the digestive system :)

maybe you'll feel heat coming from your stomach (because your stomach secretes HCl, and it will react with the NaOH, and the reaction itself will generate heat)

    :) Thanks for your comment!
