I have come to know, that the reason there has been a revival in the west for the medieval traditions an jousts, is in part because of a few westerners that visited japan, and took notice while wondering what had happened to our traditions.Although RenFest are not the best examples like mojothemigo said there are places in Italy,Germany & eastern europe that are bringing those medieval traditions and festivals back..phew!! I almost lost my breath!..Ohh and look them up in youtube.

I think they will because is not only part of their cultural tradition but is also part of their religious belief system.You see to them is just not only martial prowess but also a form of worship. An so true what you said about RenFests;Luckily, i believe there are some cities in eastern Europe that are bringing back those traditions like the japanese.i know i seen the videos some in Italy others in the Czech Rep., Poland & Hungary too.All we need is HEMA & AEMMA to participate too.

Agreed and very true. That being said, modern jousting isn't too different from the 1500s. It was mostly pomp, fair, and ways for knights to show off with much less of it's martial portions it had even a hundred years earlier. Still Ren fairs can be silly and a lot of the melee fighting is klopfechter sillyness. I hope Japan is able to hold on to it all.
