(This is the BFA version) "Missionary kids" are my passion. They are also a complex and often bemusing subculture. This video explains the reasons for their "difference," as related by my students during nearly two decades of teaching MKs at Black Forest Academy in Germany. Please contact me through my website if you'd like to use this video to help to educate others. www.michelephoenix.com

  • Our family just finished our 'BFA decade' with the graduation of our last child from BFA last June. This video brought tears to my eyes as I recognized not only the faces of many of their friends, and even my own son, but also the TCK story that my children share. Thank you so much for posting this. I've already shared it on my FB.

  • Wonderful video. I was an MK for a short time, and have moved enough to get that "nomad" feel. I'm actually going to be serving at BFA in the near future, and I'm in the process of creating a website to keep friends and family aware of what I'll be doing. All that to say, I would like to include a link to this video on the site. Of course, I'll give full credit to you since I had nothing to do with its creation. God bless! Keep up the good work!

  • Very, very well done.

I am an MK and it is true that we grow-up alone yet amidst a world of experiences. It is also true that we try to paint ourselves by our peculiar travels - but we have little else. A missionary kid can speak many languages, but spell none - thanks to too much moving around. We are unique and often isolated because we live a-straddle too many cultures - maybe get to know us?

  • Thank you so much for making this. I identified with everything you had on here, despite the fact that I didn't go to BFA and had a different TCK experience. It might sound shallow, but I feel like i know these people when I read this. And I do. So thanks- even if we are a bunch of arrogant self serving people :)

  • What a Blessing BFA has been to kids forover 50 years. Great Video. Thanks

  • Fluidbeat, you sound angry, and I'm not sure that you understood the purpose/content of this video...or maybe you didn't watch all 6 minutes? If you'd like to engage in an actual conversation about this (rather than disparaging, anonymous comments), I'd be happy to chat. You can contact me via michelephoenix (dot) com or, if you know me, through my usual email address. Either way, please be aware that the anger you've shown here probably points to some deeper frustration than just this...

  • What self indulgent crap. This is dreck. Lets all give ourselves a pat on the back for how special we are. "We are so special, because we have experienced this and that" Arrogant self serving trash is what this is, a disgrace.

Cue deleted comment because wonderworld cant take some criticism.
