The lyrics for this song are based on a short story which my daughter Ineke wrote whilst she was at high school. It tells of a young girl trapped within a life of poor choices. The girl has spent a good deal of her life institutionalised as a result, but nevertheless still dreams of finding the right door to a better life. Not only did Ineke contribute to the song, she is also the 'star' of this production. However, she was a little coy about the scenes on the beach. I had to stop filming everytime someone walked past! She felt a bit embarrassed about jumping around like that.
I sang the vocals and played all the instruments.
Reality
She sat there in her little room
And stared at painted walls
Beyond this place of solitude
Lay many other doors
Each of them with the promise
Of a different destiny
Which one should she choose she wondered
Which would set her free
Her shoes made such strange noises
As she walked across the floor
Nothing like the sounds they made
In places trod before
They'd walked on soft green grasses
And they'd walked the dusty road
The shiny floor beneath her feet
Was like a huge chess board
Chorus:
She'd made some bad life choices
And nothing seemed to last
The floor tiles all were chequered
Just like her recent past
She'd been here many times before
And would return again
If only she could find the door
And would it let her in
Instrumental
She woke to ugly sounds once more
Felt sunlight on her face
And dreams of freedom gone once more
Reality in their place
And while she longed for one more chance
The sunlight drank her tears
But couldn't soothe the pain inside
The scars of all those years
Chorus:
She'd made some bad life choices
And nothing seemed to last
The floor tiles all were chequered
Just like her recent past
She'd been here many times before
And would return again
If only she could find the door
And would it let her in
Instrumental
After reading Ineke's short story, this song means so much more to me! I love it!! What the two of you put together here is just too cool for words. WOW, is the best I can do.

@markreedbutterfield Thanks Mark! If it hadn't been for Ineke neither this song nor the video would have happened.
