How neat to visit his barn, lucky you, I hope you do.I live in New Zealand, so not much chance of paying my respects. Yes, it wouldn't have taken long to weigh his heart, but I guess his owner wanted him to be buried intact, that was the word I meant, when I said whole.I can understand her wanting to give Big Red special treatment, he was a special horse.Cheers.

I know Big Red was buried whole but it wouldn't take that long to weigh his heart.After all they did an autopsy on him and its common the organs are weighed,looked at and put back in the body cavity.I toured the Ky Horse Park in Lexington ten years ago.My family and I didn't have time to go to see Big Red's grave at the farm as you must make a reservation ahead of time.The next time I go thru Richmond,I will get off there and look at the barn where Secretariat was born in.

The vets never weighed his heart, out of respect for Big Red.I think it was Penny Chenery who wanted him to be buried whole, most racehorses are not.
