I have done film with my experiments. The insulation can loses its properties for various reasons. My experiments show that any result of test below 500 or 200 for Fluke tester is give information that is problem with insulation.
My experience suggests that RCD trip off only when an adequate level of moisture in the walls or dust in this situation.

  • As the exposed live and earth get wetter then a better conductive path to each other is going to decrease the resistance, as soon as that gets below 7666ohms (assuming your on 230v mains and using a standard RCD ) its going to trigger the RCD's 30 milliamp's tripping limit.

Nothing worse than to fault find an intermittent RCD tripping as you can test perfect but get the above scenario when it rains.
