Thanks for listening/watching, solitaryeccentric, and for your comments. When I originally created the music (in April 2005), this was the first musical creation of mine where as I was playing the percussion part to the loops I had created, the music seemed to take me along for the ride (a draft version of Number was over 11 minutes long).

What may I ask are those "screechy" sounds technically called?

The "screechy" :) sounds are what Apple's "Orchestral Crotales" software instrument sounds like in the highest octave the instrument can be played, plus some distortion.

The tune is actually very good. I have a feeling that a few more layers of sound, and dropping the distorted sounds at the end, would make this track comparable to SAW vol. 2.

(p2 of reply) I can appreciate both your wanting to vary the soundscape more and take out some of the more grating elements (the distorted crotales and three other software instruments playing the free percussion part in the latter half). I had to look up your Aphex Twin reference, I was unfamilar with the abbreviation (I bought SAW vol 1 about a year ago). The piece is more directly influenced by years of Brian Eno and my love of repetition, reverb, metallic percussion and distortion.
