First test of my CNC upgrade to the Legacy ornamental mill. I'm using 387oz. NEMA 23 steppers which don't provide enough power in some situations in the test run: 1. the Z-axis stalls when moving up. 2. The A-axis will stall if too deep a cut is made.

In the video, I'm taking about a .125" depth pass. I know just enough about mach3 to make this happen, and I'm using my z digital indicator for reference.

My goal is to turn 1.5" diameter dowels, then thread them to 1"-5. So far, I'm taking two passes on my 1.625" blanks to get down to size, then I run up my A axis motor speed settings and run some sandpaper over the dowel while doing an A100 command. I wouldn't say that I'm doing anything awesome, but it works.

So far, so good, but I sometimes have problems with raising the Z, which is not so bad when turning the dowels round. I'm more concerned with the threading; if an error happens there, my dowel will be ruined.

If anyone wants to share some advice or ask questions, i'll do the best I can to answer them.
