Wonderful assurance and control - and depth. His lower register is entirely thrilling. Well, his entire range is thrilling! Great choice of accompanying art. Thanks Stefano.

Haha, I was writing an essay, and while listening to this and writing, the quality of my essay improved really much!

MOLTO, MOLTO BELLO, ANCHE SE PREFERISCO L'INCISIONE IN CD DI ASAWA 8CON ROUSSET).
ORCHESTRA E DIRETTORE SPLENDIDI, ANCHE SE NON HO CAPITO CHI SONO.

Venga pur, minacci e frema
L'implacabil genitore
Al suo sdegno, al suo furore
Questo cor non cederà
Roma in me rispetti, e tema
Men feroce, e men severo,
O più barbaro, o più fiero
L'ira sua mi renderà

andreas la tua voce è per me impareggiabile ci sono tanti artisti validi però il tuo timbro vocale èper me il migliore.

I agree with your assessment of Andreas. Considering all the elements of a countertenor voice and musical performance, he is one of the very best. I also like Paul Esswood's rich tone, excellent technique, and understanding of Baroque interpretation. Philippe Jaroussky is very popular now and deserves much praise. Some others are fairly good, but I also have heard a few that are disappointing. Natural alto Russell Oberlin had the advantage of singing with full voice and deserves attention.

Both voice and orchestra make for a great listening experience.
It brings my imagination back to more inspired times with great pleasure.

Yes, the voice and orchestra both are top quality for today's peformances. And, as you say, the Baroque era certainly respresented an unusual degree of musical quality, quantity of good composers, and quantity of excellent music, much of which still remains to be heard today. 80% of all operas were written before 1800, and 70% of the roles were for the high male voice.

A wonderful "voix mix" has Mr Scholl. I like his interpretation of this very difficult Mozart aria. It must be a great thing to see him performe one of the roles in Mitridate (Sifare I think?)...very hard to see male singers doing this.

Both Baroque opera and countertenor voices finally have become more popular, especially in Europe; however, a smaller percentage of them have the necessary vocal power, tone, control, agility, and clean enunciation to perform opera on the stage. This recording of Andreas Scholl is even more remarkable when considering the fact that his tessatura is not his normal, full voice. As amazing as this recording is, I would have loved to have heard the original cast member at the opera's premier.
