Taking a poem from Underwater Galaxies, and going into it a bit more deeply to see some of its meanings, its resonances...

I really love this poem--it seems to be a kind of subtle and playful plea for movement, for the setting out at once. Within the plea, there is the sense that many will not set out--will remain in 'serious discussion' yet incommunicado--and it will take becoming the Golden Dome of one's tomb to even begin such a beautiful quest.

I agree with you assessment regard a poet's self commentary--whenever I see it, it tends to give light to the poet's personal inspirations for the poem, which are an entity wholly in and of themselves, and might have very well led to an entirely different poem.

  • Beautiful imagery and metaphor. I liked what you said about opening up to receive inspiration. I too, find surrender is the favorite tool of the muse...and for some reason, She often likes to visit late at night. :)

I was also reminded of the following:

When my Beloved appears, With what eye do I see Him? With His eye, not with mine, For none sees Him except Himself.

    -Ibn al-`Arabi
