Last few minutes of KCAL's analog signal with corresponding digital signal. I didn't have a way of truly synchronizing the recordings, so I just synchronized them by the video content. Normally, the analog signal is a few seconds ahead of the digital one.

The reason the digital signal changes is because KCAL changed the frequency of their digital broadcast to channel 9, which was originally used by their analog signal, while KCBS changed their's to KCAL's old digital frequency.

  • why did KCBS-DT transition over to KCAL's pre-transitional digital channel instead of channel 2.1?

  • I'm not sure. However, I noticed that none of the stations in the area transitioned to channels below 7. That doesn't appear to be the case nationwide though.

  • Also, this is the actual signal frequency I'm talking about here. KCBS-DT does appear as channel 2-1, but the actual frequency it uses corresponds to channel 43.

  • That Dish Network commercial was entertaining.

  • @AlrtPrsn Low VHF (RF2) would have been a nightmare for KCBS-DT while High VHF is only problematic for KCAL-DT. A good example of why RF 2-6 doesn't work for DTV is WPVI Philadelphia who use RF 6. Google it and you'll find out. Even KTTV had to transmit 11-1 over a couple RF channels till they got their power raised. VHF RF channels are having problems while UHF RF channels seem to be doing fine. I think KCBS using 43 won on this one.
