@AlrtPrsn Low VHF (RF2) would have been a nightmare for KCBS-DT while High VHF is only problematic for KCAL-DT. A good example of why RF 2-6 doesn't work for DTV is WPVI Philadelphia who use RF 6. Google it and you'll find out. Even KTTV had to transmit 11-1 over a couple RF channels till they got their power raised. VHF RF channels are having problems while UHF RF channels seem to be doing fine. I think KCBS using 43 won on this one.

why did KCBS-DT transition over to KCAL's pre-transitional digital channel instead of channel 2.1?

I'm not sure. However, I noticed that none of the stations in the area transitioned to channels below 7. That doesn't appear to be the case nationwide though.

Also, this is the actual signal frequency I'm talking about here. KCBS-DT does appear as channel 2-1, but the actual frequency it uses corresponds to channel 43.
