I truely love this film - one of the best screwball comedies of the 30's.

Bringing Up Baby (1938) is one of versatile director Howard Hawks' greatest screwball comedies and often considered the definitive screwball film. It is also one of the funniest, wackiest and most inspired films of all time with its characteristic breathless pace, zany antics and pratfalls, absurd situations and misunderstandings, perfect sense of comic timing, completely screwball cast, series of lunatic and hare-brained misadventures, disasters, light-hearted surprises and romantic comedy. The non-stop, harum-scarum farce skewered many institutions, including psychiatry, the sterile field of science, the police, and high-society upper classes.

Katharine Hepburn ... Susan Vance
Cary Grant ... Dr. David Huxley
Charles Ruggles ... Maj. Horace Applegate
Walter Catlett ... Constable Slocum
Barry Fitzgerald ... Aloysius Gogarty
May Robson ... Aunt Elizabeth Random
Fritz Feld ... Dr. Fritz Lehman
Leona Roberts ... Hannah Gogarty

Released Feb.18, 1938.

  • It was the first movie with Katherine Hepburn I watched and I still think it´s her very best.

  • @MrAlGator It really is such a GREAT movie ! Just love it.

  • This is certainly one of the best movies ever -but this is the case with almost ALL Howard Hawks movies

  • @MrAlGator It really is one of the best ! Hawks was great ... no doubt about it. I think Grant is absolutely perfect in this movie. One of my all time favorites.

  • Would anyone know which version is used in the movie?? It was released in 1938 and Doris Day's version is from 1958. There are so many versions of it but if anyone knows the precise one used in the film, it would be a great help. Thank you

    Favorite Comedy for me

  • @malanos I have no idea. I know Cary and Katharine sing it ... but other than that I don't know. It's one of my all time favorites too !

  • just great

  • @tonyd953 I know - thats Hollywood for you though. Knock 'em down when you get too popular. Don't quite understand that !

  • @Dayniac4324 continued'... Katharine Hepburn was a true Artist way ahead of her time and people didnt like it, well TOO BAD ON THEM!!! look how she turned out!....

  • another academy for, shes absolutely great and beautiful in that role! and i had to fight back the tears in that one, "Alice Adams", and "Stage Door" were hits and i thought "Holiday" was pretty good too so unless her first film "Bill Of Divorcement" and "Christopher Strong" and "Mary Of Scotland" directed by John Ford were so bad, i dont think it was right to term her box office poison just because she didnt want to play the Hollywood game like everyone else,
