We continue with regular trains on the great (and windy) Royal Albert Bridge at Saltash near Plymouth. Sadly the Great Britain II was heavily delayed, so we only could catch it entering Plymouth station with 34067 "Tangmere" - SR Battle of Britain Class 4-6-2 (instead of 5029 "Nunney Castle" which should have been running) and 70013 "Oliver Cromwell" - BR Britannia Class 7P 4-6-2 in charge. Via CrossCountry HST to Birmingham the overnight stop was Shrewsbury where in the morning two loco hauled passenger trains are almost meeting: Wrexham & Shropshire with class 67 and the Arriva Wales service Holyhead - Cardiff pulled by a class 57. The rest of the morning was spent on the scenic Llangollen museum railway at Llangollen and Glyndyfrdwy where 6430 - GWR class 6400 0-6-0PT did its duties, the nearest mainline station is Ruabon.

  • Thank You For a Great video!

The only way I'll ever get to see Trains in Wales.

That tank engine... Is it oil or coal?

  • Hi,

    Thanks! :-)

It's using coal but has an interesting feature: push-pull capability.

More Welsh steam can be seen in my video "UK Steam, April 12-18 2007" here on YouTube.

    Greetings,

    Roni

  • @MartyLJ57,just to let you know that the GWR did try using Oil for a very short period on one or two loco's,but found it not to work so well as South Wales Steam Coal and abandoned the idea.I'm not sure though whether or not the two narrow gauge engines on the Aberystwyth to Devil's Bridge line ran on Oil when they were owned by GWR.

  • Yes, windy, expensive hotels and the beer ist not my taste. So I must help myself with single malt. The ladscape ist worth this little handicaps - even the crossing in 2:45.

    Even closer than china.

  • Great Video, 5 Stars!

  • nice !

  • LOVELY STUFF !! 5***** thanks joe

  • Wonderful care and time taken with these captures, as usual.
