http://www.ymaa.com/training/schools/ymaa-south-africa Corlius Birkill first met with Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming at YMAA Headquarters Boston, USA in 1995. Here he started his intensive study of the following systems; the southern division style, White Crane (Bai He) and the northern division style Long Fist (Chang Chuan) as well as internal systems Tai Chi Chuan, and Baguazhang.
In 1995 YMAA South Africa was founded. Corlius has acted as president of YMAA South Africa since its inception. During the period 1995 to 2008 Corlius visited Boston up to three times a year for periods ranging from 2 weeks to 12 weeks. In March 2008 he completed the YMAA Shaolin Syllabus when he was awarded the rank of Instructor.
Corlius has also had the privilege to travel with Dr. Yang and visit various YMAA centers in the US, Europe and Taiwan. Corlius has taught seminars in the US, Argentina and South Africa on different aspects of various Kung Fu systems as well as Qigong and Meditation. Dr. Yang visited YMAA South Africa annually from 1996 until 2007, offering seminars and training senior YMAA students.
In 2004, YMAA South Africa had the privilege of hosting the annual international YMAA camp, with great success. Corlius and other senior students from YMAA South Africa also embraced the opportunity to attend several YMAA International Camps in Poland, Hungary and France.
YMAA South Africa offers regular training in Shaolin Kung Fu, Taijiquan, Chin Na, San Shou as well as Ashtanga Yoga and Russian Kettlebell.
Weekend seminars are also offered on subjects ranging from Chin Na, Knife Defense, Self Defense, Staff etc. as well as Qigong, Meditation and Massage.
