Oh yes they can. I tell you, as an automotive student I can tell you that the little 1.8's that Honda/Acura had in the 90's, they got it right. They can produce the same amount of horsepower as an old Chevy 350. Granted there isn't as much torque with the 1.8's as the old 350's, thats a given since there's half the pistons, but those 1.8's they can deff go as fast as the old school Chevy, Dodge and Ford motors from the 1970's. Kudos to Honda, and I'm an American car guy if that says anything.

all engine blocks warp from heat naturally, resurfacing is making it flat and level so the head goes on correctly, the head should also b resurfaced, and its done so u dont have a leaking head

Thanks OPEC and EPA for making us drive these lightweight pcs. of crap toys. My 75 Chevy C10 with iron block and heads just keeps going. But my Honda with 90k miles had had the head off twice already and ready for a total stripdown of block to fix this joke of a design.

John your awesome man!! :D

how much would it cost to resurface?
-
why did you not remove the oil control jet next to the oil return port between cylinders 2 and 3? they just pull out and can get lost in a washer.

@mattheep12 are you saying your head leaks and you had just got it resurfaced? or that its leaking and you are not sure why just yet?
John,
Do you therefore need to use a thicker head gasket? Another comment asks about the milling of the head. If the head and block are milled do you need a thicker gasket? Thanks.

@NaymzJaymz - If you are only removing .002"-.004" from each, I would say no.
