  • Is the pouch also the Vagina? If so that must feel crazy

  • @zinkerled ,

No, the pouch is about 6" (15cm) above the birth canal. Born after a gestation period of only 33 days, the neonate is the size of a Lima bean--blind, hairless, with only the front legs developed. On instinct alone, it must crawl from the birth canal to the pouch, where it fastens onto a teat and spends several months growing into a baby Kangaroo. Mom licks a path from the birth canal to the pouch, but otherwise can't help the newborn joey make this arduous journey.

  • There could be a neonate on a teat inside the pouch, and another zygote inside the mother. Kangaroos are incredible breeders.
