CFA volunteer David Tree had an unexpected worldwide response to mobile phone video footage and photos of him giving water to a thirsty Koala while working on the Mirboo North fire. The footage and photos were taken during the Delburn Complex fires a week before Black Saturday but only gained worldwide exposure when published by the Herald Sun more than a week later (after the tragic events of 7 February 2009). The video was broadcast on TV news programmes around the world, viewed more than one million times on YouTube, and will be remembered as one of the iconic images of Black Saturday even though the encounter took place a week earlier. A classic example of the age-old media saying "don't let the truth get in the way of a good story!"
