@TigerRoyal40 in my opinion, you are wrong and grossly misunderstand the idea of self-identitiy. if you know anything about being raised by minority parents in America, many "Asian-Americans" struggle with their cultural identity as they have adopted both cultures and values - it is not about being "half". it's about finding a balance. no one said anything about uniqueness.

in my opinion it is wrong to say Japanese american. one person cannot be split into two. If you go back far enough do you think a child brought up in one tribe but his parents are from another tribe will say he is a half cast?? no, where you are brought up has a massive impact on the values you adopt, and so they should as you have come to this country to live hence should adopt its culture. Not saying forget your heritage but certainly don't go around claiming you are half half just to seem uni

your not looking in the mirror going 'i am japanese american.' eh... thats kinda what he made his own music out to be. But i find it funny that a kid from miami think he is japanese because he looks asian. I'm supposedly german/french, but i neither know german or french, but neither do i practice everyday german/french culture! i like most of this guys music, but all he is doing here in this interview is playing the old and tired race card. Oh, but im japanese so i connect more with him. sure..

You talked about the music in the background too, in your first comment.. so you don't make any sense.
