Machen was a good fighter, but never was aggressive enough. He sure had some great boxing skills though. He was old at this point.

Anyone who could go the distance with Liston in his prme, like Machen did was a serious contender. He ( Machen) didn't get his rating beating up tomato cans & stiffs.

@FijneWIET WELL, unless the "questionable" people liston was around at the time, those mobsters, they still coulda bet money AGAINST liston coz they favored ali, who was an upcoming star, and yes, ali took the title off liston, remember? liston COULD HAVE owed them money or who knows? but its a good chance they had somthin to settle an said, looky here man, this fight, you go down! that 2nd fight, not comin out his corner after TWO ROUNDS? LISTON?? liston was better than that, even at that age
