These commercials aired on local CBS affiliate KMST on September 30th, 1984. Thanks to my Uncle for recording these.

1. "Charlie's Angels" Commercial Bumper (Ok, that bumper graphic is awesome. It should be airbrushed on the side of a van or something)
2. Love Chevrolet
3. S.P.C.A. PSA (With Betty White! Totally 70's!)
4. Monterey County Home & Leisure Show (And remember, it's freeee)
5. Promo for "The People's Court"
6. "Charlie' Angels" Commercial Bumper
7. League of Women's Voters PSA (Clearly they were supporting Reagan)
8. Promo for "Love Connection" (Was the day the Titanic set sail really a "great" date in history?)
9. KMST Station ID
10. Macy's Carpet Sale
11. Promo for "Sunday Edition" (Um, wow. That forum could not have gone well in the Santa Cruz area)
12. Promo for "Hart To Hart" (Robert Wagner is awesome. That is all)
13. Rider Skills Training
14. Pacific Bell
15. Promo for "M*A*S*H*" (I love these promos with seemingly random scenes of TV shows)
16. KMST "Stress" PSA (Love the sign language girl, LOL)
17. Promo for KMST News 46
18. KMST Monterey Peninsula Unified School District PSA (Clearly a primitive android. Rubber skin and shaky joints. Nothing like the quality of the current Japanese varieties)
19. Promo for "Love Connection"
20. Promo for "Sunday Edition"

  • Betty White has been on 50s TV, 60s TV, 70s TV, 80s TV, 90s TV, 00s TV, and 2010s TV. Now that's amazing.

  • @MattTheSaiyan Her first TV appearance was in 1949, so you can add the 40s to that list too.

  • "Charlie's Angels"? Was this a rerun? I thought the show's run ended in 1981, at which time "Charlie" (the late John Forsythe) shifted over to "Dynasty" as Blake Carrington...

  • @texacobigred42 Yes...of course it was a rerun. These aired in the afternoon.

  • hehe, 4:18 , I wonder if anyone ever got 'cured', as they would probably call it... I'm a straight guy, no sweat, but I just wonder if anyone ever has changed due to a tv program ?

  • What's being talked about isn't a TV program that will magically turn people straight, but a TV program focusing on organizations that will magically turn people straight. Big difference.

I'm sure there are a lot of people who claim to have been "cured" from things like this, but I'd suspect nearly all of them are in denial.

  • This is one of the better volumes so far. The awesome graphics, offensive PSAs, and bad acting in cheap suits.

If you ever do a Best Of volume, you need to pull a few gems off of this one.

  • @MeInTX I think it was that...and not everybody (untill like 1994 because of Federal Law) had the closed captioning decoder on their television sets. Also don't forget, then as in now...trying to close caption a program will run up some pretty high bills. As for Betty White, I really don't think she had any idea how big she'd become :)

  • I hope KMST has more money these days, so that their locally produced ads no longer look like they were shot in someone’s living room.

This was a year before Betty White had her big comeback with The Golden Girls

Until the revelation at the end, I couldn't figure out why the hell the guy was calling his mom in the middle of a date.

Closed captioning was pretty common by 1984. Was it still cheaper to hire the signer instead of captioning?

    Worst Paul Harvey impersonator ever.

  • @80sCommercialVault I could understand why programs like that could be taken seriously in 1984. The fact that some misguided (at best) people still take them seriously and believe in them in 2011 is very, very sad--and very, very dangerous to those forced to participate in one.

  • Paul Hardly (Human)

That's the rest of the story.

  • @80sCommercialVault Or you have people that thought they might be gay. Plenty of people aren't quite sure what they are. I bet a good number of the people who really aren't gay anymore, never were. They just thought "gee maybe I am gay" and tried it out for a while.

  • That Betty White commercial should be redone today, but about clueless parents and their kids instead of animals.
