The lighting design for the 1935-36 California Pacific International Exposition in San Diego's Balboa Park was inspired by famed painter Maxfield Parrish. Architect Richard Requa and lighting designers H. O. Davis and Otto K. Olesen recreated the Maxfield Parrish look with concealed and colored lighting. Spectacular paintings in light were displayed throughout Balboa Park, as seen in these historic images. Historic postcards and photos from David Marshall, AIA. Music by Enya.
I would have loved to have seen this at the time. Do any of these buildings still exist?
