002 Electricity
This show is about one groups experience with living off the grid. Some people say "Youre not off the grid. You're on Youtube". This show wont be about defining the term. The term 'off the grid' is defined by people differently but I can say from my year experience, it's always a work in progress.

  • Are you planning on insulating your buildings?

  • @notbored12 Funny you should mention that. We were up until 5 this morning putting up insulation in the studio.

  • ok so I have a question??? how much was the cost of your set-up of solar panels and inverter? I wanna know how much it is for a person thinking about living off the grid a is to set-up.

  • @celluloidcypher they're different prices depending on your set up. this was just the one greaserig set up and it has been a work in progress. Upgrades like the batteries and the inverters etc. A little research on the net and you can find all sorts of solar options.

  • so im curious, what does this guy do for money? it sounds like he stays in his place and dont work

  • hydrogen fuel cell is next

  • Very cool. Putting the American Spirit into real action.

  • An idea for alternative lighting......White Cold Cathode Computer case lights.

They have low current draw and are 12 V. Each set is about 9 dollars shipped and has 2 tubes with output about 350 LUX.

I use 2 sets (4 twelve inch long bulbs) for lighting my computer room. 1 set is sufficient however when I want to read a book I turn the other set on. They claim to be 5 milliamp at 12 volt. although I have not verified it at this time.

  • Try "Woodgas" or alcohol in your backup generator. "victorygasworks" has a youtube channel and a website. good stuff and proven "Old technology" Peace

    Great video by the way
