why not convert the focal point into heat as steam, water or hot air into a controlled cooker? Should yield more consistent and even cooking conditions.

YES Mr. Westfalls Calculus class was epic!

here is the way you can use what you made. send the sun light into a cone shape focal point into mirrored tubing and send that sun light down into a mirrored box where solar panels would be spinning to keep the solar panels cool or put in a cooling system but i think that will be a problem control the sun and make it work for you dish has to have robot arm to follow the suns path

add a lens at the focal point , get some magnification going

@checkold Why wouldn't it be, it's only heat. It's safer than fumes that come from burning fire. :)

It wouldn't surprise me if the school suspended the student for bringing a weapon to school. Public schools are so horrible.
Yeah, we got the mirrors at cost which made it nice. What's the price on mylar? The mirrors are pretty durable...glued on with hot glue, but students can be rough on them and some will pop off every once in a while. I'd love to hear how the mylar turns out. Keep me updated.

Thanks...we got them at a local hardware store and cut them into 1" square pieces. The store gave us a great deal, $15 for 30" by 36" sheets.
