The Kepler Mission uses a NASA space telescope designed to discover Earth-like planets orbiting other stars. With a planned mission lifetime of at least 3.5 years, Kepler will use a photometer developed by NASA to continuously monitor the brightness of over 100,000 stars in a fixed field of view. The data collected from these observations will be analyzed to detect periodic fluctuations that indicate the presence of extrasolar planets (planets outside our solar system) that are in the process of crossing the face of other stars.

  • The Keppler team is withholding major parts of the data for verification and review until 2012. Apparently, it's still more important to make sure to get credit for scientific discoveries than to make scientific discoveries. If I was 95 years old I would be really pissed off!

  • @oringent same, piss taking innnit, meanwhile others are doing also some brilliant discoveries.

  • So Cool! I hope we can find a planet similar to earth

  • @warssssssss i am sure we gonna find one quite soon, actually i am quite certain we have discovered few, but verification process takes up to a year, so latest bunch of 1500 planets discovered by Kepler needs to be verified, and that takes a bit of time, i estimate some major news as early as march 2011, and May 2011 might be of particular interest top all who are interested in this topic.
