Ok for setting up my Easycap, I used three gold splitters 2 female to 1 male to connect my Xbox 360 to my TV to my EasyCap.
Xbox 360:
- Component cable on "Standard Definition" (Composite video)
- NTSC
I opened up Sony Vegas Pro and clicked the Capture Video icon. Make sure you have it on DV and click OK.
Capturing with Sony Vegas Pro:
- Capture device: SYNTEK STK1150
- Capture format: AVI (best quality but huge file size)
- Region select: NTSC_M
- Capture resolution: 720 x 480
Ok when you have the Sony Vegas Pro Capture up go to Video and make sure it's on SYNTEK STK1150. Once you do that, go to SYNTEK STK1150 Capture Properties. For Video Standard, Mine is NTSC_M with a 30 for my frame rate. These settings however may be different due to what country you reside in. For Color Space/Compression, I have RBG 24 and for Output Size I have 720x480. For safety checks, next go to SYNTEK 1150 Properties and go to your Image tab and make sure you have the right settings. For me it's NTSC/M with Composite Video. Like I said this may be different for you depending on where you live.
Next head on over to the Audio and make sure you have Digital Audio Interface chosen. I left everything as default but if you wish, you may explore and check different settings for it.
Then I clicked Capture Video on the left side below my preview screen. And stop whenever I'm through. (Go To Options to Preferences to Disk Management and make sure you save your files where you want to save them.)
Re-encoding (to reduce file size):
- After Effects CS4 for editing
- Adobe Media Encoder for encoding
- File size before: 4.96GB (1 Min Clip)
- File size after: 37.6 (1 Min Clip)
I opened up After Effects and went File to Import to File and clicked the video I wished to render and clicked OK. Then I dragged that video down to my timeline (Make sure you have your Composition window opened). Then go to Composition to Composition Settings.
Width: 1280px
Height: 720px
Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square Pixel
Frame Rate: 29.97 fps
Click OK and if you see the Composition window the size will alter. click the video on your composition window and stretch it until it covers the screen up. Now we are going to add effects/filters to the video. You can either do the effects/filters to the video or do what I do and on a new adjustment layer. Go to Layer to New to Adjustment Layer. Note some of these plug-ins came from third parties so you may not have these. With the adjustment layer highlighted in the timeline go to Effect to RE:Vision Plug-Ins and choose FieldsKit DeInterlacer. I kept the settings like they were but I made the Sharpen in that Filter to 1. Then go back to Effect to RE:Vision Plug-Ins and click SK Sharpen. I changed the Sharp Radius to 4, enabled Multi-Res. Made Contrast Mode Global and changed the Contrast % to 20%. Everything else was left alone. Then head back to Effect to Blur and Sharpen to Unsharp Mask for the last filter and change the Radius only to 2. Save the project to whatever you wish for.
Then open up Adobe Media Encoder. You may close After Effects if you wish to now. Once it's opened, click File to Add After Effects Composition. Find that project and click it and on the right side, it should have only 1 composition if you followed my steps. However, if you compacted and had multiple compositions, then make sure you choose your final composition. Click the right composition and click ok. Make sure you chose H.264 as your file format and for Presets go to YouTube Widescreen HD. Then after choosing YouTube Widescreen HD double click it again to open up a new window. There should be five tabs on the right side, Filters, Multiplexer, Video, Audio, and Others. If you can't see them look for where it says Export Video, Export Audio, and Open in Device Central. Right next to Open in Device Central there is a greyish circle button; click that and it should show you those tabs. Now then, click Video and modify your Frame Rate to the 29.97 or whatever you were using. You can save this Preset if you wish but then click OK. On Adobe Media Encoder click the Start Queue near the middle right side and it should begin rendering.
If you have any further comments or questions, please feel free to post and I will respond to them as soon as possible.
