Choppy editing again, when I get on a tangent it's hard for me to keep the video under 10 min.

  • were you diagnosed by a dr. or self diagnosed?

  • I thought I mentioned it in the video, but I'm self diagnosed. Sometimes I feel like maybe I'm wrong, but then I just read what the symptoms are, and I totaly fit all of them to some degree.

  • But it might link you up with people who have shared experience, which can make life easier. There is also a college specifically for people with Asperger's. Someone very close to me figured out that she has ADD from reading books on the subject. She worried that might be wrong, since she doesn't have a background in medicine. But, when she was tested her suspicions were confirmed, and she does indeed have it. If you have a gut feeling that you have it, there's a high liklihood you're right. =)

  • ...I'm assuming that that's because Asperger's makes it difficult to focus.

    2) I don't think that being self diagnosed means that you aren't right about your diagnosis. You might want to get diagnosed in order to have more resources available to you. I know doctors, even ones who specialize in these sorts of disorders are often insensitive...

  • Hey there. Thnx so much for sharing! Just wanted to say a few things. 1) Pls don't feel bad for mentioning your IQ; you didn't dwell on it to brag, and it gave important context to what you're saying. It's clear to me, and I'm sure, to most of your audience, that you are showing that your difficulty in performing in academic situations isn't lack of mental capacity. That the syndrome makes it difficult to bring your intelligence to bear in academic work...

  • Hi Chuck! (I'm sorry if I offended you by shortening your nickname)

I just wanted to say that although I have now been officially diagnosed as having Asperger's, I had suspected for quite some time that I had it too. I have had a lot of similar experiences to yourself, like dropping out of a Media Studies course back in '07 because I found the travelling, pretending to be 'normal', lots of homework I had to do sooo overwhelming! However I don't let that get in the way of my future aspirations.

  • oh by the way yeah...channeling creativity is definitely an issue with a/s... also many of us tend to also find it harder to fulfill our academic potential. I basically had a brain over load while studying so quit and now see contentment with as much happiness and fun as possible as the most important goal in life. Good job on the videos anyway!

  • I still forget to make enough eye contact at times but as a child it was terrible. My dad would often click his fingers saying ''i'm over here'' as though i didn't know and that used to just piss me off. The older I get the more I feel like it's morphed into adhd and i think eye contact is an issue there as well. I too have a high verbal IQ yet did utter crap at school lol. I made up for it a bit since but only to a degree. Aspies are walking contradictions too a degree...

  • me too. I can relate to a lot of the things you described about yourself as you were growing up
