You should consider an 'undercut' where you keep your long hair but shave your nape up to about mid-ear. It's the best of all worlds, as you still have a pretty convential style with your hair down, a very unique sexy look with a updo and that bare nape and certainly and upmost the very relaxing feel of being buzzed or shave once a month! Try it :D
