What if that image is actually how she is? What's wrong with that? Sex can be power, man. There's a whole lot to be said for controlling the gaze and manipulating how others see you. I look like an extravaganza of painted nails and lipgloss - does that make me a shitty feminist? Being a feminist, to me, is about Women doing it their way because it's their way and doing it for them. I shouldn't have to shave my head to prove myself.

Further to that, expecting a Woman to tone down her sexuality and style to fit into some crappy-ass "feminist" style mold is WAY WAY WAY anti-feminist. When you push your rules on other Women, when you say "don't dress so slutty" "wear less lipstick" "blah blah blah" you become the enemy.

I think this is an ongoing discussion in feminism. My one question would be this: If you claim that "being sexy" is feminist, I would ask where did this "sexy" image comes from? It is an image created by men, sold to women, and repackaged to feminists to make it legitimate to dress/act in the same way. Conforming to the patriarchical, stereotypical, and at times damaging ideas of what women must look like to be "sexy," regardless of the ideology behind it, is problematic...

That does not make it bad to be "sexy," but I think that pretending the image of "sexy" appeared out of nowhere is too simple, and mindlessly reas well as perpetuating sexist images. Also, the idea of using our sexuality as a tool, is an old standby; one that should be rewritten. Although sexuality is important, I think there are innumerable ways women can enact our agency to get "what we want."

I wouldn't say that the concept of "sexy" is something exclusively manufactured by men/directed towards women. Both sexes see standards of beauty in mainstream media, but also have personal opinions about what makes them feel sexy, right? I think feeling sexy is a very inherent part of a person, what with the libido and all... Do you want women to find entirely new standards of sexiness? What if women like wearing make-up? Red lips = ancient implications of sexual empowerment, you know.

@nonmaleficence I'm a guy and I like feminism. I dislike it when women have to fit into a certain role because others expect them to. Or because they have to conform to shit. You can paint your nails, you can show the twins, nothing bad with that. Using your body image as a weapon is empowering, I think.
