For this technique demonstration, Alberto Crane (UFC Vet, 1st American BB under Gracie Barra, and all around good guy) was gracious enough to show us his signature pass: The CRANE Pass. The pass is especially effective form the closed guard and half guard. Be sure to watch after the instruction, for the moved being used by AthleticBodyCare athlete, Orlando Sanchez, to win the Blue Belt 2010 Absolute World Title!

See you on the mat.

  • Nice video, but you gotta tone down the unnecessary graphics during the instruction, it's just annoying.

  • d-block???

  • Didnt know how to attach the vid:

    the title is:

Scott Bieri vs. Alberto Crane 2007 Grappling World Team Trials

  • Yes you can do it no gi as well. No gi you have to watch out for the armdrag because of not having the lapel control. Also it works well no gi if you lock your hands instead of the hand on the floor.

You can check it out in action in the vid attached:

Overtime starts at 6:45 and the crane pass starts at 8:27. He had to escape from the bottom or sweep and I had to pass. I used the crane pass for the win.

  • Used it effectively, nice details solid pass.

  • To present a different perspective (re: graphics), I didn't notice any during the actual instruction of the technique. Keep up the good work of weeding those with attention difficulties out by including graphics.

    E

  • LOVED the pass but those little things in the screen not so much.

  • Could you reach around the head in nogi to compensate?
