These musicians played at the Memphis airport yesterday.
I was impressed for two reasons, and not because they were good.
1, They were behind the security checkpoint, without boarding passes. Someone had to agree to let them in. To that person - I salute you!
2, They didn't have a case open to ask for donations - they played for our enjoyment, and theirs presumably. Purely for the pleasure of playing.
It certainly brightens my day a good lot to be distracted from the "I have to get on the next plane and fight people, planes, travel-sweat and weariness" and hear some beautiful music.
In reviewing this pretty crappy and shaky video, I am also surprised to see so few people reacting to it. And those who did were not the ones who "looked the part". You can see a young guy recording it. Mostly it appeared that younger people were the most appreciative.
I made sure to go up and thank them for doing something so selfless for us, random strangers, before I had to leave for my flight.
It's a cooperative project between the Airport Authority and the Memphis Symphony Orchestra. I was a police officer there for 10 years and never did see an Elvis impersonator. Performing I mean. Saw plenty of Elvis impersonators in August during Elvis Week. :-)

If you haven't seen it yet, the Washington Post did something similar with Joshua Bell
