EIU Broadcast Meteorology Practicum

Students recall how they began their broadcast meteorology education in the course that helped them move on to broadcasting weather live five days a week on WEIUs NewsWatch. Watch how the course, designed and taught by Mr. Cameron Craig, transformed these students from nervous presenters unsure of the future to masters of the green wall. This course is an integrative learning experience between the Department of Geology/Geography, WEIU-TV, and Communication Studies at Eastern Illinois University.

EIUs Broadcast Meteorology Practicum offered through the Department of Geology/Geography is designed to merge both science and communication into a course to prepare students to advance to WEIUs NewsWatch program. The course focuses on the study of forecasting techniques, synoptic meteorology, and using scientific methods in determining a meteorological forecast for the general public. Students engage in preparing daily forecasts from meteorological models and then broadcasting their results online. The significant aspect of this course is every student produces an individual broadcast everyday in order to practice the art of broadcast meteorology as a non-hyped, scientific based career.
