@tommy9927 It's an environmental thing? Just curious- I miss the sound of the rally cars of the fifties to the eighties roughly... I've recently developed a bit of an obsession with this kind of stuff. Thanks for the info!

The ACO lowers the noise level from year to year. If you look at the first 997 RSR entered from Manthey in 2007 (?) you see two pipes facing each other. There's no muffer at all.
Today, you can see a big muffler where the open pipes were in the past. Todays 997 RSR don't sound any different than a 997 GT3 RS with a street legal aftermarket exhaust :(

@tommy9927 If you don't mind enlightening an ignorant mind (mine), what are these noise level rules you speak of?

Great to hear a 997 RSR with open pipes. I only remember the Manthey works car at the 24h of Spa with open pipes, the rest was ruled out by stupid noise level rules :(
The most immersive Porsche experience were the old 996 R and RS in the early 2000's were noise levels were not ruled as strict as today

this RSR is reportedly one of the loudest cars in the world.
and it sounds like satan is the engine - it's so sinister.
