The central character is the member of a decadent society keen on status symbols, sex and drug abuse. Slowly, he comes to realize that there must be more to life than this: As the spoken text ("let's get out of here") twice indicates, he tries to escape his predicament, first by changing locales, but here things only get worse. Having left the hedonistic party at his loft, we now observe him sitting at a bar, isolated, absent-minded, boozing and smoking heavily, until he gets up and goes to the toilet where a couple, laughing hysterically and obviously on drugs, are having sex in one cubicle while a motionless, possibly lifeless, heroin addict, the needle of a hypodermic syringe exposed on his bare lower arm, occupies the other. Manically washing his face in front of a mirror like a man drowning, our hero realizes in a flash that this debauched lifestyle will be his end too unless he quits it. In the next scene, we see him making his way through the crowd of ecstatic dancers, fleeing this dungeon of 'hollow men' and women. Uttering the final words "Let's get out of here", he drives off. This time we know that he has made the decision to abandon his old habits for good and that changes are afoot.
