Invisible ball experiment

This is an experiment with a ball that is made of polyacrylamide. The polyacrylamide has absorbed lots of water, and have become much bigger and like a jelly like substance. When it is dropped into the water, it seems like it becomes invisible. That is because since the polyacrylamide has absorbed lots of water, it has the same light refraction as water. Which results that it look invisible in the water.

I got mine from a friend here in Norway, and he got it from a flower store. It is used as a soil conditioner for plants. I do not know where you can get those in USA, but I guess at your local flower store.
