Peter Cook was a guest on one episode of this long-running early evening program in 1987, when he was in Australia as guest of honour at the inaugural Melbourne Comedy Festival.

He appears in the company of Daryl Somers (who is moved to give us his 'Dud' impression), Ossie Ostrich (Ernie Carroll) and Jackie McDonald.

Cook is asked about the worst job he ever had, reminisces about his visit to Australia with Dudley in the early 1970s, and shares his opinion of Tony Greig.

The head on a stick was called 'Dickie Knee', and the disembodied voice belongs to John Blackman.

  • Wow, HHIS is a really shit show isn't it.

  • @bluejeckett Yes he did Red Faces. The judges were Red Symons, Peter Cook and Samantha Fox as far as I recall. I remember watching it when it was first on, but for some reason I don't have a copy of it.

  • @frogandpeach1 ah k, so he didnt do Red faces then?

  • @bluejeckett I heard Red Symons talking about his 1987 encounter with Cook early in 2009, on his breakfast radio program. He said Cook's dressing room was full and he (Symons) missed several of his own segments, because you just had to be there (i.e. with Cook). He also said that although the recording took place in the early afternoon, Cook was already tanked up ("well away" might have been the way Red put it, but I can't exactly remember).

  • Nurse!

  • @frogandpeach1 would be good to get the Red Faces one, watching this comedy great judging the twadry local acts of Melbourne would be amusing in itself

  • Ha ha, I'm Australian, which this show was, regular 2 hour light comedy show that ran from 70's where it started as a kids show to the 90's where it ended as a long running early evening light entertainment program for the family. So a trip back to childood for me (I'm 30). And it was surreal seeing such an internationally renound comedy great sat with such forgettable people as Daryle Somers and Jackie MacDonald and having that bloody puppet talking to him. lol
