Original Dixieland One Step - The Carling Family 2007
Just last month in June the Carlings performed ar the Stockmollan Jazz Festival close to home in Sweden. For almost 20 years I have been collecting films of this talented family. However until a few weeks ago I did not see any of their most recent performances. A new youtube friend "Glengillo " from the UK had been impressed by my many jazz clip postings of the family and decided to attend this festival to find out for himself. He filmed some of their music and was very generous to let me have a copy of that.
It is very good to see that the Carlings are still together and keep on improving. I spoke to father Hans a few months ago. He told me that the youngsters had left the "boot" camp and that daughter Gunhild had taken over leadership of the band. We have to be thankful to Hans that he has been able to direct his family in such a wonderful musical direction. The luck he had was that each of them was willing to practice, but more so that each of them was blessed with so much talent. Hans is now 65, but plays with the energy of a 40 year old.
We see Hans on trumpet, Max on clarinet, Gunhild on trombone, Gerd on piano, mom Aina on banjo and a bass player I have not seen or heard before.
