SSDs are basically larger capacity Flash drives. Boom.

hello MR.BEAN

I was expecting an explanation on a more low/fundamental level.

Did he just come form the 80's?

This did not really explain anything when you really think about it. Really no information is given that explains the technology aside from that flash reference which I'm sure 99.999% of the people watching this have no idea what that means either.

@explainingcomputers Nice! Thank you for the intelligent reply :)

Just a vital question:
SSDs vs HDDs lifespan: which can last longer? 2 parts of the question here:
1) What is the average life-span of each drive?
2) And what are the respective re-write limits of each drive?
Both parts of the question partially overlap, but they are different.

@creamie123 These are the key quns! An enterprise class hard disk (eg WD Caviar Black or Raptor) ought to last 5+ years, & performance will not decline over time (subject to fragmentation, which can be fixed). A modern SSD may last that long using TRIM. Eg Samsung claim a MTBF of 1.5 million hours for their latest SSDs, if also noting performance will degrade over time. For a HD the life and re-write limits depend far less on intensity of usage. But an SSD can more reasily be hammered to death.
