Sad attempt at making a resonator out of a silencer HKS Hi-Power muffler. Two primary goals were set and met:
1. Reduce noise level to a more pleasing glasspack sound.
2. Reduce the amount of imposed backpressure due to the basic design of the silencer.

Had problem with fiberglass packing being ejected under heavy throttle engagement. Second modification with a different density material also suffered ejection. Plans for a third mod with a wire mesh screen to prevent ejection of the fiberglass packing have been on hold.

FYI... That distortion on my rear fascia is a reflection of a crack in the concrete.

  • Nice comments there flammers. Care to explain yourselves better? I have a very loud exhaust with minimal backpressure. The stock silencer tube sounded like crap and added a huge bottle neck at the end of the exhaust where the exhaust gas pressure is the lowest. My mod of this silencer limited the bottleneck, provided the correct amount of backpressure for efficient use of my S/C on the low end of the powerband, and gave the exhaust a deep note. What is so f'n gay about that retard?

  • The purpose of this testing was to find a better sound and performance with the silencer installed. This is an easy DIY project for someone looking to quiet down their exhaust but still have a better exhaust not than what you get with an unmodded insert. Max dB level should be around 100dB.

  • Yes it does sound bad. This was a test of the fiberglass batting. It failed to absorb enough of the sound waves and attenuate them. Check out the other videos. I repacked with Grade0000 Steel Wool and the sound is so much better and the steel fibers stay put. This is a resonator as the tube of the silencer is perforated which allows reflected frequencies to be attenuated. The perforations are of two different sizes to accommodate different frequencies.

  • Yes, I can see the resemblance. The sound quality of my camera does not do it justice. I finally decided to pack it with a Grade 0000 Steel Wool. This is late to be replaced by a Stainless Steel Wool, but so far, the steel is not rusting out. The sound quality is tremendously better and the steel wool has not ejected one bit.

  • Even worse than a ricer.

  • hmmm...have you ever thought about spraying the inside of the silence with the black sound deafning materials? Then secure some layers of fiberglass(or any choice u like) on the silencer?

  • It has to be a ricer thing to just rev the fuck out of your engine for no reason

  • LOL he thinks higher end PC speakers can only play this back, its his cam mic getting raped, and with distortion out the ass....

  • @navylife54 what exhaust system is that?

  • Looks retarded

  • fuckin gay
