Here is a GREAT website article about soldering these I strongly suggest you check this out before doing this repair.

http://techauto.awardspace.com/mainrelay.html

The first of the "Quick Tips". I think I'm going to throw one of these in from time to time to keep things lively. So if you have a Honda or Acura that is not starting DUE TO LOSS OF FUEL PRESSURE this is a good place to start. You may be able to repair the main relay normally found under the dash on the drivers side. If this helps great remember me fondly and pass my name along because I just saved you at the very least about $80, at the most $200.

I will be upgrading my website very soon, in fact I will post a video when it is up. Cool new things on the horizon for ETCG and YOU the viewer. So if you want take a look at the old site because it's days are numbered.

  • Thanks Eric this did the trick on my Honda CRX race car. A little bit more info these are called dual relays on old Bosh FI systems, it is the interface between the car and the FI system one relay puts pwr to the fuel pump the other to the ECU (hence Dual relay/main relay) my car had no ecu codes, no spark.

  • @davegt27 Thanks for your input and for your comment.

  • Dude man your a life saver, My car hasn't started for a month and after I saw this video and checked my main relay and wiggled it a bit it started right up. I had cracks in the Main Relay that prevented spark to my car. Keep up the good work man and thanks again for this video.

  • @KuBurd1 You're most welcome, thanks for the comment.

  • yup... just replaced the relay on my 90 accord...it was a BITCH...

  • @TheWyatt007 Next time just pull the 'guts' out instead of trying to unbolt it.

  • Before I run out and grab a new battery for my 2004 Honda Civic, I need your experienced opinion on something. Long story short: 4 months, while idled car would shake and REV/RPM would fluctuate; 4 month later, last night (03/02/12) while driving car, RPM fluctuated violently, then went the stereo, then complete dash went, yet I still manage to pull into driveway. After shutting off car, restarting it won't start and I hear a repenting clicking noise and "whirl"? Love your videos!

  • Thank you very much for posting good videos.

  • Dear Erik this video was the solution to my honda concerto 1.5 problem, that when hot did not start at all.

A complement to the info of your video is that in my honda the main relay is behind the radio column. keep sharing info in this free world.

    forever gratefull

  • @EricTheCarGuy Eric please please help.. I have this problem, with my h22 accord. I just did this swap myself. Okay when I put my car in 1st gear it cuts out the all the lights flash and the engine runs like crap and eventually stalls when I let the clutch out more. But when i put it in reverse it has all the power there and no problem. What could this be? Can any one help?!? I checked all grounds they are all tight. I have no clue what the problem is.

  • Eric, You are one of the best there is. Awesome vid. I have a question. My 2000 Honda city, 1.5exi has been misfiring very much when it gets heated up. Only 3 injectors are firing. Spark plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, fuel tank replaced, no luck. Ecu says no trouble codes. Could it be the main relay. Yes the car starts without any issues, but there is heavy misfire. Help would be greatly appreciated. :)

  • Thanks for this video, just did it about 2 hours ago, i tested the pump jumping terminals 5-7 and it was working, got the relay checked and fixed like the video and that's it! Its been like 2 years with this hot day's starting problem, hope this lasts forever.

Anyway, thanks ETCG more videos on ACCORD 90-93 would be great!
