Rameau - Castor et Pollux (Air de Télaïre Tristes apprêts)

Jean-Philippe Rameau
14 octobre 2007

You who see my distraught heart, Father of the day ! O sun ! O my father ! I no longer want any gift but what Castor has lost, And I renounce your light. Mournful solemnities, pale torches, Day more fearful than darkness, Lugubrious stars of tombs, No, I shall see no more than your funereal lights.

  • @Minnehaha62 Her sharp starts are most likely following the instructions of the conductor Christophe Rousset who places dramatic expression over exactitude as was the tradition of French opera since Lully.

  • trop magnifique !!!!!

  • true, but i wouldn't rule out the entire recording because of this.

  • She starts sharp at the beginning of the first two phrases!! She should know better (and so should the people who let it be recorded).

    Thumbs down.

  • i was there to see it. ;-) i don't think it was in amsterdam.. but rather in versaille for the 20th birthday of baroc music center.

  • may be in Amsterdam, the Nederlandse Opera performed this recently with these musicians, you may watch their tralers.

    D.

  • Where was it recorded?
