"Tristes apprêts, pâles flambeaux, translation: Mournful solemnities, pale torches, Day more fearful than darkness, Lugubrious stars of tombs, No, I shall see no more than your funereal lights. You who see my distraught heart, Father of the day ! O sun ! O my father ! I no longer want any gift but what Castor has lost, And I renounce your light. Mournful solemnities, pale torches, Day more fearful than darkness, Lugubrious stars of tombs, No, I shall see no more than your funereal lights.

@Minnehaha62 Her sharp starts are most likely following the instructions of the conductor Christophe Rousset who places dramatic expression over exactitude as was the tradition of French opera since Lully.

trop magnifique !!!!!
-
true, but i wouldn't rule out the entire recording because of this.

She starts sharp at the beginning of the first two phrases!! She should know better (and so should the people who let it be recorded).
Thumbs down.

i was there to see it. ;-) i don't think it was in amsterdam.. but rather in versaille for the 20th birthday of baroc music center.
