I sang this funny little song about a Scotsman. This is Mike Cross' version & was written by Jim Stafford. Thanx to fabfrith for informing me of this cause I didn't know before.

Jim Stafford Lyrics
Under the Scotsman's Kilt

Well, a Scotsman clad in kilt left the bar one evening fair.
And one could tell by how he walked that he'd drunk more than his share.
He fumbled 'round until he could no longer keep his feet.
And he stumbled off into the grass to sleep beside the street.

Ring-ding-diddle-iddle-a-ladio, Ring di diddle-e-i-o
He stumbled off into the grass to sleep beside the street.

About that time two young and lovely girls just happened by.
One says to the other with a twinkle in her eye,
"See yon sleeping Scotsman so strong and handsome built.
I wonder if it's true what they don't wear beneath the kilt."

Ring-ding-diddle-iddle-a-ladio, Ring di diddle-e-i-o
I wonder if it's true what they don't wear beneath the kilt.

They crept up on that sleeping Scotsman quiet as could be.
Lifted up his kilt about an inch so they could see.
And there behold for them to view beneath his Scottish skirt.
Was nothin' more than God had graced him with upon his birth.

Ring-ding-diddle-iddle-a-ladio, Ring di diddle-e-i-o
Was nothin' more than God had graced him with upon his birth.

They marveled for a minute then one said, "We must be gone.
Let's leave a present for our friend before we move along."
As a gift they left a blue silk ribbon tied into a bow.
Around the bonnie star the Scot's kilt did lift and show.

Ring-ding-diddle-iddle-a-ladio, Ring di diddle-e-i-o
Around the bonnie star the Scot's kilt did lift and show.

Now the Scotsman woke to nature's call and stumbled towards the trees.
Behind the bush he lifts his kilt and gawks at what he sees.
And in a startled voice he says to what's before his eyes,
"Oh, lad I don't know where you've been, but I see you've won first prize."

Ring-ding-diddle-iddle-a-ladio, Ring di diddle-e-i-o
"Oh, lad I don't know where you've been, but I see you've won first prize."

  • I know Mike Cross but this is NOT a Mike Cross song. This song was written by Jim Stafford. Cross did a cover of it.

  • Ok. Thanx I didn't know that. I'd just heard Mike's version & not Jim's.

  • I changed the description & put this info in. :)

  • Id just like to say this is not a Scottish song as it says in the discription, it was purely made up by the americans,

there are plenty of Scottish songs from Scotland but this is an american song made up by americans

  • Even though Mike Cross is from Tennessee, it's still in the style of Scottish Folk songs.

  • Im not Scottish, im Irish but I still feel you did a grat job and i to LOVE this song, keep up the good work

  • Thanx!

  • You have a really good voice! There were a few verses that were off key, but you have a natural talent.. Even your bird was trying to get in on the action, lol. Thanks for sharing.

  • Yes, It's American, But what is American. A good quarter of us are Scots and Irishmen - many both, that england cleared out of our mother countryby force and convinced their replacements that they were the originals. I have loved this song from the first day I heard it. My Gradfater was a Boyd. My Grandmother was a Ballentyne!

  • kilts rule

  • Thanx! I blocked this moron, so we won't be hearing from them again. BTW I recorded 2 new songs today. Go check them out.
