@golf0312 21 foot rule. A person at a stop will reach you in 2 seconds or less. Police train to draw and fire 2 aimed shots in less than those 2 seconds. The training involves being preoccupied with something else. For example writing a ticket or taking a statement. That keeps your mind and hands busy and slows the reaction time. However most interviews are not taken at those distances. Which is where the disarming, and barehand reacting come into play. I personally took kempo and krav maga.

within 5-7 yards, you will not draw your pistol before he draw his fixed blade knife and attack you. even though your pistol already load and shoot by hip.
So, don't play with knife within near distance like 5-7 yards.
And the Karambit was more harder to disarm it normal fixed blade. This knife was double edge which can twist when you catch their hand.

@WORLDARYANREVIVAL wow where did you get your info on fighting? If they are barehand I pull a baton, a taser, or pepper spray. They pull a knife I pull a gun. Always go one above. But if something happens train to get out. I have been in situations where the other person had a knife and I was unable to get to my equipment. But geuss what I won due to extensive training. I can redirect your thrust to put you down on the ground on top of your knife. I agree though, If possible flee and avoid it.
