A Web page that contained a key to remove the digital-rights-management used in HD DVDs has started to circulate widely on the Internet -- and, at Digg.com, caused an open revolt after moderators initially removed postings containing the code. Why the riot?

  • If one wants to copy a DVD or HD-DVD they don't need a special code they just copy it. The only purpose this code has is to watch a movie on your computer without buying special software or to encode it into another format.

CSS is not copy protection as many think, it is just a technique used by the DVD Forum to make sure that all DVD players are licensed and in order for the manufacturers to license it they have to pay. There really is no other reason.
